I am committed to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in my library programming.

I think it's very important to keep track of the books, songs, and other resources that we share during programs. One way that I keep track of who I'm including is with an ongoing diversity audit (Click here for more information about diversity audits).

The categories that I current track for my books are:

  • BIPOC author/illustrator

  • Black

  • Indigenous

  • Latinx

  • African

  • Asian

  • Middle Eastern

  • Animals

  • LGBTQ+

  • Bilingual

  • Diverse characters (mixed group, or race unclear)

  • Disabled charaters

  • Adopted

  • Single Parent

  • Grandparent(s)

  • Head scarf

  • French

  • Jewish

  • Non Fiction

And then I add categories as needed. Below is a living document of how I keep track of all this. In the future, I want to track the songs and rhymes I use as well. I make a conscious effort to avoid the tunes of songs that are rooted in racism, such as Ten Little Indians.
